Streaking isn’t too out of the ordinary at most colleges — but almost streaking is a sign that it’s Otterbein’s third annual Nearly Naked Mile.

During the event, sponsored by the Panhellenic and Interfraternity Councils, about 25 people ran pink-skinned through campus, which was 33.1 degrees according to Port Columbus International Airport’s weather radar.

“Which is a little down from last year, but it was really cold out,” said Mike Stumpf, the assistant director of the Center for Student Involvement and Greek Life at Otterbein.

This year, the frigid route started out of the back door of the Campus Center, then wound past the Rike, around the football field, around Roush Hall, then back to the Campus Center.

Stumpf did say, though, that about 150 people showed up to donate clothes, and though they have yet to figure out exact numbers for the total donations, they had to take them away in “two full car loads.”

“It was definitely a good year. I think this was the most clothes we’ve ever had. We had a lot of good winter clothes,” Stumpf said.

And the frozen participants agreed.

“It was a good time and a great way to bring Greek organizations together,” said Blaine Kelly, junior public relations major and member of Pi Kappa Phi.

“It was freezing cold but it was a lot of fun to be with friends,” said Krista Ruano, sophomore nursing major, and member of Tau Epsilon Mu.
