The rematch on the road had a very different outcome.
After the exciting win against Wilmington (No. 5 tournament seed) on Saturday for head coach Dick Reynolds’ final home game, the Otterbein Cardinals (No. 8 seed) could not carry their momentum all the way to the Quakers’ home court.
Losing 76-65,with both teams out to a slow scoring start, the Cardinals went on a 10-0 run late in the second half to close the scoring gap within 10 points, but the Quakers held off the attack.
Junior Zach Bakenhaster was the high Otterbein scorer in the final game of the season with 15 points. Sophomore Max Van Meter and senior Chris Davis followed Bakenhaster with 11 points of their own. Van Meter went 5-5 with free throws.
The game-high score went to Wilmington senior Antonia Bowman, who had 25 points. Sophomore Malcolm Heard II added another 14 points for the Quakers.
Otterbein finishes the 2011-2012 season with a record of 9-17 overall and 6-13 in the OAC conference. Head Coach Dick Reynolds finishes his 40 year career with 653 wins.
During the press conference after Reynolds’ last home game on Saturday he said what he will miss most about Otterbein.
“I will miss the university, the young people. They are aggravating sometimes, but I’m sure they think the same of me at times,” he said.
Next year’s team will return to what is now called “Reynolds’ Court.”
