ESPN just announced that Charlie Weis will take another shot at coaching a college football team. He’ll be going to the Kansas Jayhawks in the off-season to improve their football program.

Just in case you can’t remember who Charlie Weis I’ll remind you. Weis gained his fame as Tom Brady’s quarterback coach until 2005 when he decided to leave and coach the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In his first two years he won over 9 games but after that he had a losing season and then two 6-6 seasons. He was then fired after his fifth year.

After that Weis left to be the Offensive Coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs. The year after that he left to take the Offensive coordinator position at Florida. This year he’s leaving for Kansas to continue his college coaching career.

In college Weis has gone 35-27 which would keep him on the Jayhawk team for years because Kansas is a basketball school, not a football one. That may give Weis more of chance to build this team into the team he wants, especially if the school has lower expectations. Kansas is very happy with this hire because Weis is getting the attention of the people which gives the university more attention. Talk about a win-win for everyone.
