During a city council meeting on Nov. 1, members reviewed a proposal that would prohibit certain text-based communications while driving.

The ordinance would make it illegal to write, read, or send text messages or interact with text-based internet content while operating a motor vehicle. The ordinance would allow hands-free communication and would also allow texting to report a safety or health emergency.

Texting would be allowed if the car is parked, stopped, or removed from the flow of traffic.

The ordinance is planned to take effect as soon as the law is passed. Check back for updates on the progress of this ordinance.
